Description
Who You'll Work With
You will be based in one of our North America offices as part of our Batteries team within our Sustainability Practice, where you will join a growing team of McKinsey experts who are innovating in battery storage.
McKinsey has the goal of helping all industry sectors get to net zero by 2050 and cut carbon emissions by half by 2030 — with this in mind, we have launched McKinsey Sustainability, our new client-service platform. To achieve net zero, the world needs technological innovation, deployment, and scale-up at unprecedented speeds. We developed the McKinsey Platform for Climate Technologies (MPCT) to help clients plan, execute, and scale up the implementation of these critical technologies. MPCT works with the world’s leading experts to anticipate the impact of new technologies and challenge conventional approaches to established ones. We focus on the most critical technologies — those with the potential to transform our sources of energy for every industry, region, and community.
What You'll Do
You will work in or lead a team (depending on your experience) of 3-5 consultants to identify and implement potential solutions for a specific client problem or challenge. Together, you will help clients develop lasting improvements to their performance and realize their most important goals.
In this role, you will use your expertise to advise a range of clients on how to boost performance and reduce the cost of production through effective cell design, chemistry, and technology. You will play a key role in accelerating and optimizing the planning, designing, and building and operations of gigafactories to reduce the cost of battery cells and support the global transition to sustainable energy.
You will have the opportunity to work across various types of engagements such as advising clients on their portfolio of storage technologies and their performance towards decarbonization targets. You would be involved in green business building projects, supporting the growth of startups in the technology, energy, or industrial supplier space. Other examples of projects encompass energy trading optimization, manufacturing scale-up or operating model design.
You will work directly with clients, usually on site, and you will take ownership of the overall project and its end products.
When you join McKinsey, you are joining a firm that will invest in your professional development. As an Expert Consultant, you will receive training and coaching in the following skills:
structuring ambiguous problems and taking action to solve them
synthesizing complex information into clear takeaways and recommendations
working effectively with diverse teams to come up with the best solution and moving people organizations to act
establishing trust-based relationships with clients to better serve their organizations
communicating effectively with all audiences, including senior leaders, in a structured manner
developing your leadership style, leveraging your own passions, strengths, and personal values
Lastly, you will play a key role in helping us to grow both our Sustainability Practice and our reputation as leaders in the market, so we can continue to fulfill our mission to help all industries get to net zero by 2050 and cut carbon emissions in half by 2030.
