Principal Accountabilities

Assist with co-sourced corporate income tax return compliance including gathering and preparation of state apportionment work papers, preparation of state credit calculations, detailed review of state return drafts, and gathering any necessary additional information for compliance purposes
Prepare corporate state franchise tax returns and related calculations
Prepare quarterly estimated and extension payment calculations, including OH CAT and WA B&O calculations, and prepare related accounting journal entries
Review and reconcile fixed asset reports for all entities on a bi-annual basis, recommend tax updates as needed
Address and maintain all tax-related notices log, including developing responses to tax agency notices
Prepare personal property tax returns as assigned
Maintain and update physical locations of US entities
Assist with bi-annual tax provision process, including data gathering, work paper preparation on an as-needed basis such as state UTP, tracking and documenting state law changes, leading tax risk calls and documentation
Conduct tax research to support a tax position and/or document an issue with a resolution;
Assist with other compliance matters including BEA, FinCEN, annual SOS reports, etc.
Liaise with financial, treasury, legal, operational personnel, and external advisors to develop tax strategies and resolutions
Assist and support various income tax audits
Identify and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
Assist on special projects and support the business operations for any tax-related issue
Ad-hoc compliance-related projects such as assistance with accounting method changes, law changes, E&P calculations, etc.
Multi-disciplinary position will also support other tax work streams (as needed), including US international compliance, tax accounting, and transfer pricing functions;

Key Performance Indicator (KPIs)

Timely submission of accurately prepared tax calculations and work papers
Timely submission of tax returns and other tax filings to avoid penalties and interest
Employee development pertaining to new tax legislation and application to Sims

Experience / Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Accounting or related field from a four-year college or university, focus on taxation preferred
Accounting experience with a financial accounting system (i.e. SAP, SAI, Oracle, Hyperion)

Skills

Understands corporate income tax compliance and process
Basic knowledge of ASC740 accounting
Basic knowledge of Thomson Reuters Tax Provision (OTP)
Basic knowledge of BNA Tax Research software a plus
Able to analyze and review statutes, regulations, and case law and make appropriate recommendations to the business
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member
Ability to set priorities and to respond to changing demands from multiple sources
Detailed and deadline oriented, organized and able to deliver on timeliness
Proficiency in Microsoft office software, specifically Microsoft Excel
Highly motivated, strong work ethic, hardworking, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and being able to clearly and concisely interface with all levels of management
