Ascend Elements is revolutionizing the production of lithium-ion battery materials by establishing a clean and sustainable supply chain using recycled feedstock. Ascend Elements is taking the lithium-ion battery industry to a higher level.
We are looking for a talented Senior Chemical Engineer for our Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team. In this role you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day metal extraction product line with projects focused on the chemical conversion of spent EV batteries and battery manufacturing plant waste into high quality battery anode and cathode powders for use in new batteries. This position is key to driving the control and improvement of our production processes and the quality of the pCAM materials AE supplies our customers.
This position will either be based from one of our company locations (Westborough MA, Covington GA, Hopkinsville KY) or be a remote role with travel of at least 50% of your time.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Lead daily chemical process performance towards product specifications.
Control process flow, equipment list, utility matrix, and P&IDs for chemical processes required for production of new battery raw materials.
Support the production plant’s technical staff to meet plant metrics with robust processes and quality systems

Education and other requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or applicable engineering field. Advanced degree a plus.
10+ years of manufacturing or process engineering experience in performance materials technology.
Direct experience in battery materials synthesis (precursor), or hydrometallurgy (solvent extraction), water treatment (clarification, filter-press, evaporation, reverse-osmosis) a plus.
Knowledge of and hands on experience using APQP tools including FMEA, SPC, and design and process validation as well as Lean and 6 Sigma tools.
Effective project management for continuous improvement projects
Skilled user of MS office tools including Word, EXCEL, Outlook, Project
AutoCAD, Solidworks, CHEMCAD, ASPEN competency a plus
Ability to travel domestically and internationally
