Your role at Clorox:
The Sr. Manager of Sustainable Packaging will join Clorox’s Global ESG and Sustainability Team to support our IGNITE ESG packaging agenda and 2030 targets. Many of the sustainable packaging challenges Clorox faces require strategic collaboration with partners throughout our value chain. This role will partner with external industry organizations, internal functional teams, and our business units to develop programs to reduce, reuse, and reinvent plastics packaging – providing critical guidance and execution support to accelerate performance and achieve our 2030 targets. This role will also lead compliance with EPR requirements and Clorox’s packaging reporting requirements for EMF, U.S. Plastics Pact and others.
This position can be located in one of the following offices: Oakland, CA; Pleasanton, CA; Durham, NC; or Alpharetta, GA. (Relo will not be provided.)
In this role, you will:
Lead the Company’s sustainable packaging strategies through the sustainable packaging working group, which is part of Clorox’s overall ESG governance structure and the Alternate Resin Steering team.
Support the business units in building roadmaps and programs, initiatives, and strategies designed to meet Clorox’s plastics and packaging commitments.
Work in conjunction with R&D and procurement to drive sourcing options for Glad to achieve their goal of 50% virgin plastic reduction.
Conduct competitive and emerging issues analyses within the circular economy space that inform Clorox’s global and/or business unit-specific plastics and packaging strategies.
Share insights and best practices across projects and business units to a) strengthen program efficacy and b) inform design/execution of new initiatives.
Oversee plastics/packaging-related disclosures including USPP, EMF, and other ratings and rankings and investor questionnaires.
Create executive-level decision-making materials for internal or external meetings/events.
Lead the development and implementation of Clorox’s EPR strategy addressing key priorities including:
Representing Clorox in Producer Responsibility Organizations (PRO) in EPR states to influence program design and implementation consistent with Clorox packaging choices and circular economy principles, ensuring a level playing field for Clorox in the development relative to recycling and eco-modulation strategies.
Ensuring the Company has sufficient tracking and reporting systems for EPR compliance and work to optimize Company ROI on packaging decisions.
Working closely with BU packaging teams to ensure overall company compliance with EPR requirements.
Working externally with policy organizations, including Ellen MacArthur Foundation, U.S. Plastics Pact, The Recycling Partnership, Consumer Goods Forum, Ocean Plastic Leadership Network, and other organizations to influence recycling and sustainability actions to create a more circular economy model for packaging.
Builds multi-party partnership networks & Ecosystems for obtaining alternate resin.
Evaluate new partner(ship) opportunities with pre-competitive platforms such as The Recycling Partnership, Consumer Goods Forum and others that focus on project design/execution and strengthen Clorox’s leadership role in the circular economy.
Lead a direct relationship with NGOs and consortiums to receive emerging sourcing/partnering leads and to influence their thinking.
Coordinate with strategic external partners to identify, plan, and execute projects that focus on sustainable packaging solutions along our value chain.
What we look for:
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or equivalent experience; Master’s degree in business, environmental science, public policy or sustainability a plus.
7-10 years in environmental sustainability roles, with experience in sustainable packaging; Deep understanding of CPG / manufacturing industry, with specific expertise in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
Outstanding multi-stakeholder project/leadership management skills and proven ability to effectively collaborate across a range of internal/external stakeholders to deliver project outcomes.
Strong understanding of corporate sustainability landscape, trends, and emerging issues, particularly those related to the circular economy.
Subject matter expert in sustainable packaging; understanding of supply chain, manufacturing, and resin technology/processing.
Proven track record in delivering results, with demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to enable thorough understanding of implications of recommendations and accuracy of information disclosed.
Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills, with ability to lead teams, synthesize input and information, offer recommendations / solutions, and be able to develop presentation materials for an executive audience; negotiation skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders of multiple levels, within and outside the company.
Commercial acumen, experience to understand commercial implications of options, and experience with related NGOs and consortiums.

Your starting pay will depend on job-related factors, including relevant skills, knowledge, experience and location. The applicable salary range for every role in the U.S. is based on your work location and is aligned to one of three zones according to the cost of labor in your area.
–Zone A: $144,200 - $289,900
–Zone B: $132,200 - $265,700
–Zone C: $120,200 - $241,600
